London Olympic Redevelopment

Troika was tasked with developing a creative lighting installation for one of the new squares in the multi-billion dollar redevelopment of the site of the 2012 London Olympics. I lead the technical side of this project, including selecting and managing vendors, calculating and managing technical requirements and ensuring proper implementation of the artistic vision. Being a massive development project, there were quite a few parties involved and I had to ensure efficient communication between multiple architects, developers and contractors.

The final piece is titled 'Labyrinth of a Straight Line'. We took advantage of the diamond tiling pattern already planned for the square, and used it to create a disarming 3D illusion. The pathway was generated by the output of a maze-solving algorithm, with each of the dead-ends are marked by jade tiling. The integrated lights at each of the dead-ends highlight the "bounce" that happens at those locations.
